Early Intervention
|

|
Early intervention is for children who have or might be at risk of developing a handicapping condition or other special need that may affect their development. The goal of early intervention is to lessen the effects of the condition. Sometimes the condition can be completely resolved. There is proof that the earlier the intervention, the more effective it is. Early intervention may begin at any time between birth and school age. Research shows that human learning and development is most rapid in the preschool years. It also shows if a preschool child doesn’t learn the skills that the typical child learns in the preschool period that the child may have difficulty learning particular skills at a later time. Early intervention enhances the child's development as well as provides support and assistance to the family. Disadvantaged and gifted preschool-aged children also benefit from early intervention.
